CHICAGO – Up to 7,000 people could be enjoying live entertainment at the Old Morton Salt Factory at 1357 N Elston beginning in 2022. It comes as the site was granted zoning approval to begin new life, hosting concerts with an expansion including possible riverfront restaurants, office space and other options.

“As with all of our redevelopments, adaptive use is the cornerstone, with many creative twists, utilizing existing relics that produce a one-of-a-kind, elevated use and experience.” Blue Star Properties, who is behind the redevelopment, said in a statement posted to their website.

Morton Salt, Inc first announced the property would be redeveloped in early 2018.  As part of the redevelopment agreement, 4.25 acres was sold to R2 companies for an undisclosed amount.  The sale also guaranteed the retention of the Morton Salt-branded rooftop.
