LIMESTONE – Voters have rejected a referendum to fund the Limestone Fire Department, failing by less than 200 votes.
With 100% of precincts reporting, voters rejected a tax increase to support the station Tuesday. In total, 1,681 voters rejected the question while 1,488 voters said yes, a difference of 193 votes.
As a result of the failed measure, Limestone Fire warned in mid-October residents would be ‘forced to wait’ until other units from other jurisdictions can respond to incidents in the area on weekends.
The station is reportedly set to close on weekends as a result, beginning this weekend.
