Tornado Watch for 1.6 Million in Northern Illinois Counties Until Midnight

Northern Illinois – A tornado watch has been issued for parts of Northern Illinois until midnight Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, the watch affects Boone, Bureau, DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, La Salle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Putnam, Stephenson, and Winnebago counties. Residents should be alert for possible tornadoes, isolated hail up to quarter size, and wind gusts up to 75 mph.

The watch covers an area with a population of over 1.6 million, including 582 schools and 28 hospitals. The National Weather Service advises monitoring weather updates and having a safety plan in place.
