Watseka, IL – Residents near Watseka High School can expect increased emergency activity Friday morning as local agencies conduct a planned mock crash simulation.

According to the Watseka Police Department, the exercise will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 24, in partnership with the Watseka Fire Department, Iroquois Memorial Hospital, and the Iroquois County Coroner’s Office. The event is designed to educate students about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.

Officials emphasize that the scenario is only a training exercise and not a real emergency. However, the simulation will involve realistic elements, including emergency vehicles and staged crash victims, which may draw attention from the public.

The drill will be held on-site at Watseka High School and is part of an ongoing effort to promote safe driving habits among young drivers. Authorities say the coordinated response aims to provide students with a firsthand understanding of the potential consequences of dangerous driving behaviors.

Residents and drivers in the area are encouraged to remain aware and allow extra time for travel if passing near the school during the exercise.

Officials also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of the community and the collaboration among first responders working to improve public safety awareness.
