Traverse City, MI – A key roadway in Grand Traverse County is set to fully reopen this afternoon, restoring traffic flow after recent closures tied to infrastructure repairs.

According to the Grand Traverse County Road Commission, South Airport Road will reopen to all vehicle traffic at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 20. The reopening follows completed inspections and testing by Michigan Department of Transportation bridge inspectors and local engineering teams.

Officials say the repair work, carried out by crews and contractors in recent days, has been approved for full use. Engineering staff will continue monitoring the roadway to ensure ongoing safety for motorists.

While the main route is reopening, the Beitner Road crossing will remain closed. Drivers are advised to continue using the posted detour routes that reconnect to South Airport Road.

Additional traffic adjustments are also planned. A temporary traffic signal is expected to be installed at the intersection of Cass Road and Hartman Road as early as Tuesday, with another signal planned for Hartman Road and U.S. 31 South once equipment installation is complete.
