NAPERVILLE – Two local men are among the dead after being killed in a crowd surge at Astroworld Festival in Houston.

According to reports, Franco Patino and Jacob Jurinek died after thousands of fans rushed towards the stage during Rapper Travis Scott’s performance. Both men graduated from Neuqua Valley High School.

Eight people died in the stampede, including two teens, 14 and 16 years old.

Two investigations and a civil lawsuit are already being filed in the incident.  Astroworld was attended by an estimated 50,000 people.

On Sunday, Harris County Judge Linda Hildago called for an independent investigation of the incident.

“Perhaps the plans were inadequate. Perhaps the plans were good but they weren’t followed,” Hildago said. “The families of those who died, everybody affected, deserves answers.”

Officials report all victims were killed near the stage after the crowd began to surge forward with heart attacks and other medical trauma being reported as a cause of death.
