BOURBONNAIS – An additional 1,937 cases of COVID-19 recorded in Kankakee County during December, including 34 deaths.
As of Monday, 10,905 cases of the pandemic have been reported locally, including 154 deaths. That included 188 cases reported for the first time since December 30th, including two additional deaths.
The area saw active cases climb above 5,000 for the second time in many weeks Monday. Active cases dominated those labeled recovered for the majority of December. It wasn’t until December 30th when recoveries jumped active cases locally. Monday, the difference in those labeled recoveries over active cases was 645 cases.
Over the New Years Day four-day break, Kankakee averaged just over 52 cases per day. The local department reported 5,053 active cases to begin the week.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, since the beginning of the pandemic, Kankakee led all zip codes in Kankakee County in total case counts with 3928 cases. Followed by Bourbonnais (2792), Manteno (1087), Bradley (1017), Momence (559), Aroma Park (394), Herscher (181), Chebanse (212), Grant Park (206), Bonfield (146), and Hopkins Park (132).
On Tuesday, Region 7 remained above the 8.0% warning threshold. The region, including Will and Kankakee County, reported in at a 10.9% seven-day rolling positivity rating.
