Illinois sets new record, 6,161 cases Saturday, Region 7 positivity continues to rise

KANKAKEE – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported Saturday Kankakee County’s seven-day positivity ratings in the last 24 hours to continue to climb, now at 7.9%.  

It comes as IDPH continues to report increasing numbers in seven-day positivity for Region 7 Saturday, now at 9.3%, setting a new regional record.

Region 7’s previous all-time high was 9.2%, set on Friday.

Saturday, IDPH announced a new record of new COVID-19 cases.  The agency reported 6,161 newly diagnosed residents, including 63 newly reported deaths.  

Among reported deaths Saturday, Kankakee County reported its youngest local death in the pandemic, a male in his 40s.  On Friday, county health officials reported 30 area residents hospitalized in Kankakee hospitals for the virus.

Kankakee County set a record in newly reported cases this week, with 252 announced by county health officials since last Monday.  

Cases from the weekend won’t be reported by Kankakee Health officials until Monday afternoon.
