KANKAKEE – Kankakee County has now surpassed 3,000 cases of the pandemic reported since March.
On Tuesday, the Kankakee County Health Department reported 54 new COVID-19 cases since Saturday, bringing total cases to 3,015 since the pandemic began. The case numbers reflect totals since Friday, including Tuesday.
Over the course of the holiday weekend, the agency reported 16 new cases Saturday, 14 cases Sunday, 6 cases Monday, and 18 cases Tuesday. Among new cases included patients ranging in ages 10-80 years old. New cases in their 50s topped all age groups, with 12 cases reported over the four day period.
Region 7’s rolling seven-day positivity rate, which includes Will County, went up to 6.1% on Tuesday. Kankakee County had 17 residents hospitalized due to the contraction of the virus Tuesday. The last time Region 7 (including Will County) had that many residents hospitalized at once was back on August 12th.
There are now 362 active cases in Kankakee County. No new deaths were reported on Tuesday by the agency and remain at 74 to date.
