KANKAKEE – The Health Department is still working to vaccinate individuals falling into the healthcare fields, but will soon be holding Open Clinics across the area for eligible residents.

The announcement came in a release this afternoon as local health officials prepare to move into Phase 1B of vaccination distributions under CDC guidelines.

“We are unable to move from Phase 1A until the state has completed this phase.” The Kankakee Health Department said Monday afternoon. “As soon as we are able to move phases we will notify the public. You can also call our automated hotline at 815-802-9311 for updates. We will only update this when we have received new information.”

According to CDC data, under Phase 1B of vaccination, new essential workers eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine will include police, fire, teachers, U.S. postal workers, public transit workers, and grocery store employees.  Others include those working in utilities, correction, funeral services, dental fields, and transportation.

Those 75 and older would also become eligible to receive the vaccine.
