Orland Square Mall to shut down over COVID-19

Orland Square Mall will close tonight at 7pm and remain closed.

That move comes from Simon Property Group, the owner of Orland Square and various other mall across the country, announcement in the wake of the growing COVID-19 threat. The property company that manages Orland Square Mall said in an official statement the decision came after “extensive discussions with federal, state and local officials.”

The malls will remain closed until March 29th

That date may be extended.

“The health and safety of our shoppers, retailers and employees is of paramount importance, and we are taking this step to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our communities,” president and CEO David Simon said in the release.

Northfield Square Mall, owned by Namdar Realty Group in New York, has yet to make any announcement, though it is expected soon.

Simon Property Group owns Chicago Premium Outlets, Gurnee Mills, Orland Square Mall, White Oaks Mall and Woodfield Mall here in Illinois.
