Steger, IL – A routine transaction turned dangerous when a supposed phone sale morphed into an armed robbery, leading to a SWAT standoff and the evacuation of a Steger apartment building.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon when 18-year-old Damairius T. Hargrave allegedly lured a victim to the 300 block of West 34th Street under the pretext of selling a phone, only to pull a gun and steal the victim’s cash.

After the robbery, Hargrave fled into his apartment, refusing to come out and prompting police to call in the South Suburban Emergency Response SWAT team. The standoff ended peacefully with Hargrave’s surrender, and no injuries were reported.
