Oak Brook, IL – A theft incident involving Air Jordan shoes escalated into a high-speed pursuit, leading to the arrests of two Chicago area residents.
According to Oak Brook Police reports officers responded to a retail theft at the Nike Outlet store on January 6, 2023. Daevondre Powell, 25, from Chicago, allegedly took three pairs of Air Jordan shoes valued at approximately $389 and exited the store without paying. Tikeisha Na’keyta Coleman, 29, from Decatur, Indiana, is accused of being the alleged getaway driver.
According to reports, Coleman fled eastbound on 22nd Street at speeds nearing 81 mph in a 45-mph zone, allegedly running a red light and eventually colliding with a pickup truck in Maywood. Both suspects were apprehended, with Coleman facing charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, and Powell charged with burglary and retail theft.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis highlighted the collaborative efforts of multiple police departments in the arrests. The case will proceed to court on January 29, 2024, with both defendants maintaining their presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
