Freeport, Illinois – A 15-year-old was detained at the Freeport Public Library on Tuesday after reportedly posting images and live videos showing himself with a pistol.

According to Freeport Police, officers responded to Freeport High School’s library due to references about a school. However, they soon determined the actual location was the Freeport Public Library. On arrival, the juvenile was apprehended inside the library, and an alleged metal BB gun resembling a real semiautomatic pistol was confiscated. The juvenile was processed at the Police Department and later, released to a parent.

The Freeport Police Department assures the public that this was an isolated event and encourages continued use of the library’s services.
