Manhattan, IL – A free “Stop the Bleed” and opioid overdose prevention training session is scheduled in Manhattan this weekend. The event, which focuses on educating community members on how to handle uncontrolled bleeding and respond to opioid overdoses, will be held on Saturday, May 18th, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Manhattan Park District Community Center located at 397 S. State Street. Participants will also receive free Narcan, a medication used to block the effects of opioids.
According to the event organizers, uncontrolled bleeding is a significant cause of preventable deaths, and this training aims to empower bystanders with the skills and tools needed to respond effectively in emergencies before professional help arrives. The session will open with remarks from Judge Art Smigielski and Judge Victoria Breslan. Space is limited, and those interested are urged to register by contacting the Manhattan Police Department.
