Springfield, Illinois – Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has announced the release of the state’s long-awaited Monarch Butterfly Specialty License Plate.

This initiative, first approved by the General Assembly in 2016, is part of a broader effort to conserve the endangered Monarch butterfly. The plate, symbolizing hope and transformation, directly supports the Monarch Habitat Fund managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).

The $10 deposits collected since 2018 for pre-orders will now aid in creating vital habitats for Monarchs. This move represents a significant step in Illinois’ commitment to environmental conservation and the protection of native pollinators. Residents can order the plate through the Secretary of State’s website or by phone.
