Chicago, IL – Late Friday night, an urgent community alert was issued by Chicago Police regarding the search for 22-year-old Xavier Tate Jr., who is suspected of the fatal shooting of Police Officer Luis Huesca. The incident, which resulted in Huesca’s death, occurred early Sunday morning near his home in Gage Park. According to the Chicago Police, a judge issued a first-degree murder warrant for Tate on Friday.
The attack on Huesca, a six-year veteran of the force, took place after he had finished his shift and was heading home. He was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. In an escalation of the manhunt, police released new images of Tate, urging the public to assist in locating him by providing any information to the Area One detectives or through online tips.
Huesca’s visitation and funeral are scheduled for Sunday and Monday, respectively, as the community and his colleagues come together to mourn and remember the fallen officer.
