Marion, Illinois – A parolee was allegedly caught by residents inside their home’s garage November 29th after allegedly burglarizing a home.
According to Williamson County Sheriff’s Office reports, deputies responding to a call at around 9:48 PM, arrived at the 1700 block of Childers Road to investigate a reported residential burglary. Homeowners were shocked to reportedly find an intruder, later identified as Deshawn D. Matthews, concealed inside their garage. Dressed in a grey puffy jacket, a black sock hat, and blue jeans, Matthews was a sight hard to miss, especially with a Department of Corrections ankle monitor visibly strapped to his leg.
The drama unfolded as Matthews, upon discovery, reportedly fled the scene, sparking a brief manhunt in the immediate area. His alleged erratic behavior and desperate plea to the homeowners – “Don’t call the police, I don’t want to be in trouble again” – painted a picture of a man trying to evade the law once more.
The deputies’ search culminated just two blocks away, where Matthews, still matching the detailed description given by the residents, was apprehended. Serving a parole period at the time, Matthews now faces serious charges, including residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, and criminal trespass to a residence, a Class A misdemeanor.
Matthews’ arrest and transportation to Williamson County Jail mark a swift response from local law enforcement. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
