Victim Turns Tables on Robbers in Libertyville Nature Preserve Trail Incident

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. — A jogger turned the tables on would-be robbers during a brazen morning attack on the Libertyville Nature Preserve Trail, leaving authorities on the hunt for the assailants.

According to Libertyville Police reports the incident unfolded on Sunday at 9:45 a.m., when the victim, running northbound on the trail near Newgate Court, encountered two individuals blocking his path near a trail bench. Demanding the victim to empty his pockets, the assailants were met with staunch resistance.

Refusing to comply, the victim found himself in a physical altercation after being struck by one of the attackers, but managed to gain the upper hand, forcing the assailants to retreat as he backed away southbound on the trail.

Descriptions provided by the victim depict one assailant as a tall, 19 to 20-year-old Black male with long, unkempt hair, while the other is described as a shorter, 17-year-old Black male sporting thick, unkempt dreadlocks. The victim suffered minor injuries during the attack that did not require medical attention.
