Livingston County, IL – Carter Meister, a former Fairbury Police Department officer, was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to criminal sexual assault. Meister, 24, from Forrest, will also be required to register as a sex offender for life. This follows a plea agreement where several other charges were dismissed.

The Illinois State Police began investigating Meister on October 2, 2023, after receiving allegations of his involvement in the sexual assault of a minor aged between 13 and 17. He was arrested three days later. Meister, who was the top graduate of his police academy class in April 2022, had resigned from his position at the Fairbury Police Department in late 2023 amidst the investigation.
