Pontiac, IL – An unexpected disruption occurred Tuesday morning when a work crew, boring for fiber optic cables, accidentally struck a small gas service line along Route 116, also known as East Howard Street.

The incident happened around 10 a.m., leading local authorities to shut down a one-block radius in the area. Measures included closing streets, alleys, sidewalks, and advising nearby residents to keep their windows closed as a precaution.

Traffic was rerouted as crews worked on the scene. Nicor Gas responded promptly to the situation, repairing the damage and lifting the closures a short while later.
