Shorewood, IL – Following an inspection by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), significant structural concerns have necessitated immediate lane reductions on Shorewood’s Seil Road Bridge over the DuPage River.
Effective this Wednesday, May 8th, weather permitting, traffic across the bridge will be restricted to a single, westbound lane. The Village of Shorewood disclosed these urgent measures in a press release on Monday, indicating that the bridge, which already faced a five-ton weight limit imposed last May, has now deteriorated to a point where even stricter controls are required to ensure public safety.
Consequently, eastbound traffic will be rerouted via River Road, Mound Road, and Frontage Road to circumvent the bridge. The Shorewood Police Department is tasked with enforcing the new restrictions and monitoring traffic along the detour routes.
Local authorities have begun the process of reengineering and replacing the bridge as part of the village’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan, with efforts underway to expedite these plans in light of the current structural concerns. Village officials are calling for community cooperation and patience as these critical safety measures are implemented.
