ROCK FALLS, IL – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is meticulously investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred near Sterling and Walton Roads on December 4th at 9:29 p.m.

Patrick J. Yocum, a 40-year-old resident of Rock Falls, became the unfortunate victim of this heart-wrenching accident. While walking near the intersection, he was struck by an unidentified vehicle, later found by a passerby lying in the middle of the road.

Yocum was rushed to KSB Hospital by the Amboy Fire Department, where he was tragically pronounced deceased. The seriousness of the situation led to a temporary closure of the roadway, as accident reconstructionists and detectives converged on the scene for an in-depth investigation.

Critical evidence gathered at the site indicates the involvement of a 2014 to 2018 Jeep Cherokee, now suspected to have substantial damage to its front end, including the grill, hood, and windshield. This piece of information could be pivotal in tracking down the vehicle responsible for this devastating incident.

In a community-wide call to action, the Sheriff’s Office is appealing for public assistance in locating both the vehicle and the perpetrator behind this grievous act. They urge anyone with relevant information to step forward and contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 284-6631 or reach out to Ogle-Lee Crimestoppers at 1-888-CAUGHT U (1-888-228-4488).

In a bid to encourage public participation, the Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that informants can remain anonymous and might be eligible for a reward up to $1000.00, which could lead to a successful arrest. They request that tips be referenced under Case #9025.

This incident has not only left a family grieving but also a community in shock and in desperate need of closure. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to bringing justice to the victim and his loved ones.
