Wisconsin Woman Killed in Tragic Crash near Zion, Illinois

Zion, Illinois – A Wisconsin woman was killed in a multi-vehicle car crash near Zion, Illinois, on Friday.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the accident happened around 8:45 a.m. on Route 173, close to Kilbourne Road in Newport Township. A 68-year-old woman from Burlington, Wisconsin, driving a Nissan Altima, collided head-on with a Hyundai Sonata after veering into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons.

The accident also involved a Tesla Y, whose driver, a 27-year-old woman from Chicago, swerved into an embankment to evade the collision. The Wisconsin driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai sustained minor injuries and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center. The Tesla driver escaped injury.

The incident is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team, and an autopsy is scheduled by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
