Fatal Christmas Day Fire in Kokomo Leads to Search for Homeless Indiana Man

Kokomo, IN – A devastating residential fire resulted in one fatality and has now prompted a search for a person of interest. 

According to Howard County Sheriff’s Office, the fire broke out in the 3000 block of East CR 300 S, with emergency services alerted around 12:30 PM. A person was later found inside the home was pronounced dead by Community Howard Regional Hospital medics. An autopsy is pending under the Howard County Coroner’s Office supervision.

An investigation into the blaze has shifted to locating 44-year-old Curtis L. Freeman, a homeless man considered a person of interest in this case. The Howard County Sheriff’s Office urges the public to assist in finding Freeman, advising anyone with information to contact Detective Shirey or the Howard County Dispatch Center.

This incident is under extensive investigation by multiple agencies, including the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, Indiana State Police, and Sharpsville Volunteer Fire Department. The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information to come forward.
