Indiana Bicyclist vs Truck Collision Results in Fatality, Shuts Down US 27

RICHMOND, IN — In a fatal encounter on US 27 North, Wayne County residents witnessed a grave collision between a bicyclist and a truck on Wednesday. 

According to Wayne County Sheriff’s reports, Dean Dunaway, 56, of Fountain City, was reportedly pedaling south along US 27’s shoulder, was hit by a maroon Chevrolet Avalanche. The impact occurred as Dunaway, for reasons yet to be determined, allegedly swerved into the truck’s trajectory.

Dunaway sustained critical injuries and despite immediate airlift to Miami Valley Hospital, he succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident upon arrival. The truck driver was unscathed but was tested for intoxicants in adherence to state laws. This fatal event prompted a temporary closure of US 27, which was later reopened to traffic in the late afternoon.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
