Gary, Indiana – A dispute took a violent turn inside a Family Dollar store in Gary, Indiana, when a 21-year-old employee was shot amidst an altercation.

According to police reports it happened Monday in the 1400 block of West 25th Avenue when police responding to the shots fired call, found the young black male victim with gunshot wounds. Reports go on to say the altercation appears to have stemmed from a personal dispute rather than an attempted robbery, with the suspect having fled before the authorities’ arrival. The victim, a Gary native, was swiftly transported for medical treatment by the Gary Fire Department medics.

As the community grapples with the incident, the Gary Police Department is actively pursuing leads. They encourage anyone with information to contact the Violent Crimes Division at 219-881-1210 to aid in the ongoing investigation.
