Indiana High School Student Killed Following Early Morning Crash with Semi-Truck

LAPORTE, IN – An accident Thursday at U.S. 6 and County Road 425 West, led to the untimely death of a 16-year-old student from LaPorte County High School.

La Porte County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim Thursday night in a press release as Mark Steuer. 

According to reports it was around 7:10 a.m. when the teen was driving his truck when a semi, operated by 70-year-old Donald E. Miles of Hobart, allegedly failed to yield while turning left. The resulting crash between Steuer’s vehicle and the semi’s trailer resulted in critical injuries for the young driver. Despite immediate medical attention, Steuer was pronounced dead in the ER of a nearby hospital.

The South Central School District of LaPorte has expressed deep condolences and pledged support for all affected by this heart-wrenching incident. An investigation into the crash remains ongoing with toxicology results pending.
