La Porte County, IN – The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department has resolved a longstanding issue of unlawful occupancy at a property in Scipio Township, following the death of the homeowner in 2021. The property, located at 2866 South CR 550 West, had become a source of continuous disturbances, prompting law enforcement to intervene multiple times over the past two years.
Authorities revealed that the deceased homeowner’s property had been illicitly occupied by Jason P. Stryjewski and several others, leading to numerous complaints from the community including allegations of sexual battery, narcotic overdoses, thefts, and other disturbances. The situation escalated with a violent altercation on April 10, prompting a thorough investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division (CID).
According to Captain Derek J. Allen, on April 12, CID detectives and other law enforcement officers arrested nine individuals at the residence, including Stryjewski, on charges related to maintaining a common nuisance and criminal trespass. “This investigation, operation, and arrests put an end to a nuisance property that has been creating an excessive response and workload for deputies. In addition, the quality of life for nearby residents of the property will begin to improve and return to normal,” stated Captain Allen.
The property is now cleared of the unlawful occupants, and all individuals involved have been instructed not to return, facing additional charges of criminal trespass if they do. The case underscores the challenges and legal processes involved in managing properties after an owner’s death.
