Portage, IN – A dramatic rescue operation unfolded along Interstate 94 in Northwest Indiana when a man, who had been trapped in his vehicle for six days, was discovered beneath a bridge.

According to Indiana State Police, the man had crashed his car near mile marker 20, just outside Portage, and was unable to reach anyone for help. He sustained a broken leg during the incident and had been stranded in Salt Creek under the bridge since last Wednesday.

A bystander, who was fishing in the area, discovered the severely damaged truck with the man inside. The lack of a cellphone post-crash had left him unable to contact emergency services. Upon receiving the report, fire department personnel requested a medical helicopter, which landed near the Coca-Cola facility in Portage before proceeding to the expressway.

The man was transported to the hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed. As part of the rescue efforts, a section of I-94 was temporarily shut down, causing significant traffic delays.

Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes. Further updates on the incident and the man’s condition will be provided as more information becomes available.
