Alachua County, FL – A routine traffic stop in the Gainesville area Friday morning led to a major drug arrest involving multiple narcotics, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, Deputy S. Minck initiated a stop around the 1200 block of Northeast 3rd Avenue on Friday, April 17, 2026, after spotting a traffic violation involving a blue Chevy SUV. The driver, later identified as 51-year-old Curtis Spruce, allegedly refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle and made what deputies described as suspicious movements.
Authorities say the situation escalated when Spruce allegedly continued to disobey commands, prompting deputies to pin the vehicle with a patrol unit to prevent him from fleeing. A high-risk stop was conducted, and Spruce was taken into custody and initially charged with resisting without violence.
During a search incident to arrest, deputies reported finding multiple illegal narcotics hidden in Spruce’s undergarments. Investigators say the seizure included approximately 109 grams of methamphetamine, 14 grams of cocaine, and 9.7 grams of fentanyl. Authorities noted that as little as 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal, making the quantity recovered potentially capable of thousands of fatal doses. An additional 16.2 grams of cocaine was reportedly discovered during the search.
According to officials, Spruce has a prior criminal history that includes narcotics violations, robbery with a firearm, burglary, and fleeing law enforcement.
He now faces multiple charges, including trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute near a place of worship, and tampering with evidence. The traffic stop occurred near a church on Northeast 4th Avenue.
