Hawthorne, FL – Drivers in Alachua County and across North Central Florida are being urged to avoid a major stretch of US Highway 301 today after a fatal crash shut down all northbound lanes near Hawthorne.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to the 2400 block of SE US Highway 301 following reports of a serious crash involving a fatality. The incident prompted officials to close all northbound lanes of the highway as emergency crews work the scene.
The closure is impacting traffic moving through Hawthorne, located in eastern Alachua County between Gainesville and Putnam County, a key route for commuters and commercial traffic in the region. Drivers traveling northbound are being advised to take alternate routes as delays are expected to persist.
