BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Bourbonnais Police Department’s participation in the 2023 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge was a huge success, raising over $150,000 for Special Olympics Illinois. But it was Patrolman Travis Garcia who stole the show, leading the way as the overall individual fundraising leader.

Garcia’s impressive efforts raised $7,820 for the organization, thanks in part to his creative incentives for donations, including donut parties and coffee deliveries. He even utilized his daughter’s cuteness to pull on heartstrings for extra donations.

“I was determined this was going to be the year I was the top fundraiser,” Garcia said. “Thank you to everyone for your support – I couldn’t have done it without you!”

This is not the first time the Bourbonnais Police Department has shown their support for Special Olympics Illinois, as they regularly participate in various fundraising events throughout the year.

In fact, just last month, the department was honored with a gold level fundraising award for their “Outstanding Financial Support to the 2022 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois,” having raised over $16,000 for the organization.

“All donations help support 23,000 Special Olympics Illinois athletes and 13,000 Young Athletes,” said the department in a statement. “We are proud to be able to contribute to this amazing organization and its mission.”

The department’s next fundraising event is Dunkin’ Cop on a Rooftop, taking place on Friday, May 19th, at both Bourbonnais locations. It’s clear that Officer Garcia and the rest of the Bourbonnais Police Department are committed to making a difference in their community and supporting a worthy cause.
