Braidwood, IL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago has issued a critical flood warning for parts of Grundy and Will Counties, primarily caused by a severe ice jam.

According to the NWS, the warning remains in effect until further notice. This natural ice blockade, occurring near Phelan Acres and Bardwell Island, is causing significant flooding and is expected to persist. The areas most affected include Phelan Acres, Wilmington, and Lakewood Shores.

Residents should be aware of the heightened risks, as ice conditions could lead to more extensive flooding, impacting roadways, yards, and parks along the river. Emergency management advises caution and vigilance in these areas.
