Bourbonnais, IL – The wave of school closures due to extreme weather conditions in the Bourbonnais area continues to grow.

Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 is the latest to announce a shift to remote learning for Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, in response to the severe wind chill forecast.

This decision follows closely on the heels of Manteno schools, which earlier declared a move to remote learning due to the same weather concerns. The National Weather Service’s wind chill warning for Kankakee and Eastern Will Counties, citing temperatures as low as 15 to 30 degrees below zero, has prompted these precautionary measures.

BESD53 has advised families to refer to the e-learning instructions provided by their student’s teacher for this unscheduled remote learning day. The district emphasizes the importance of safety and well-being for students and staff in these harsh weather conditions.

As more schools in the region respond to the extreme cold, updates will be made available. Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay informed and check for the latest information on school schedules.
