Braidwood residents are gearing up for the second annual Braidwood Memorial Day 5K, scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2024. This event, hosted in Braidwood City Park, is not only a sporting event but also a fundraiser benefiting the Robert Irvine Foundation, a nonprofit aiding service members, veterans, and first responders. Organizers have announced road closures along the race route starting at 8:45 AM, with the race kicking off at 9:00 AM.
According to event coordinators, the race will operate on a “rolling” reopening of the course. The route is expected to be entirely open by approximately 10:30 AM. Residents are advised to take note of designated access points and exercise caution if needing to travel during the event times. Local authorities and event staff will be managing intersections and traffic flow to ensure safety and minimize disruptions. Community members are encouraged to support the runners by decorating with American flags, creating encouraging signs, and cheering participants at the finish line.
For further information and updates, residents can contact Josh Bolatto, Braidwood E.S.D.A. Coordinator, or follow the event’s social media pages.
