WASHINGTON – A twelve-year veteran of the U.S. Capitol Police died during the siege on the U.S. Capitol Wednesday.

“On behalf of the House of Representatives, I sent our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Officer Brian Sicknick, who died after defending the Capitol complex and protecting those who served and work here.  The perpetrators of Officer Sicknick’s death must be brought to justice.” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a letter issued Friday morning.

Sicknick was killed following a struggle after being hit in the head with a fire extinguisher. The death of Officer Sicknick is now under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch along with the USCP and federal law enforcement.

Sicknick had been with Capitol police since 2008. Officer Sicknick died Thursday night due to injuries sustained by Pro-Trump domestic terrorists storming the Capitol building.

A Murder investigation has now been opened aided by multiple agencies, including the FBI and Justice Department.

Since the insurrection on the Capitol, several law enforcement officials have offered their resignations, including the Chief of Police who plans to step down next Friday.  Both Sergeants-at-Arms for the House and Senate have also turned in their resignations.
