BOURBONNAIS – A vehicle crashed through safety barriers and landed in the Municipal Center Pond in Bourbonnais Saturday.

Village of Bourbonnais police announced the crash shortly after 6 pm.

According to early reports, at least two people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both have since been removed from the vehicle. First responders remain in the area tonight, while no word was given on the cause of the accident.

It’s not the first time the pond has had encounters with Bourbonnais drivers. In 2003, a 57-year-old area woman nearly drove into the pond after cracking the metal barrier surrounding the water.

Police are urging residents and motorist to use caution while in the area this evening.
