Caribou, ME – Temperatures are dropping quickly across Maine today, with a sharp overnight freeze expected to impact roads, pipes, and early Tuesday morning travel across much of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, lows will fall to 14°F in Caribou and Estcourt, 15°F in Clayton Lake, and near 20–25°F across Bangor, Millinocket, and Dover-Foxcroft overnight into early Tuesday. The coldest conditions will develop after midnight and persist through the early morning hours, creating a risk for icy patches on untreated roads, especially along I-95 and rural routes.
Daytime highs Monday will struggle to reach the upper 30s north and mid-40s south, with isolated snow showers possible across northern areas and light rain Downeast. The cold air will hold through Tuesday, with dry but chilly conditions continuing before a slight moderation midweek.
Drivers should watch for black ice early Tuesday, particularly on bridges and shaded roads. Residents are urged to protect exposed pipes and bring sensitive plants indoors as freezing temperatures settle in.
The cold pattern will persist through midweek, with additional scattered showers possible Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures are expected to gradually recover later in the week, but overnight freezing conditions remain a concern through at least Tuesday morning.
