Champaign, IL – Champaign Police have announced the February 8 shooting incident is now being investigated as a homicide following the victim’s death. The shooting, initially reported at 3:19 p.m. on February 8 in the 100 block of N. Market Street, resulted in serious injuries to Brandon Hardway, 45, of Champaign. Despite immediate medical aid by Champaign Police and Fire Department personnel, Hardway succumbed to his injuries early on February 17.
According to the Champaign Police Department, the investigation identified Fidele Tshimanga, 24, of Urbana as the alleged shooter. Tshimanga, who reportedly opened fire on Hardway before fleeing, was apprehended by responding officers and is currently held at the Champaign County Correctional Facility. A firearm was recovered during the investigation.
While an arrest has been made, authorities continue to investigate and seek additional witnesses and video evidence.
