Champaign, IL – The Champaign Police Department has launched a new community program, urging residents to voluntarily register their exterior cameras, such as video doorbells or security systems.

According to the Facebook announcement, the initiative is designed to streamline the process for officers to request footage from registered owners when investigating nearby incidents. Participation remains entirely optional, with camera owners retaining full control over whether to submit footage upon request.
