Charlestown, IN – Welfare Check Escalates to Officer-Involved Shooting at Nature Preserve

Charlestown, IN – Indiana authorities are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting at Nine Penny Branch Nature Preserve in rural Clark County. 

According to the Charlestown Police Department, the incident occurred during a welfare check for an Indiana man believed to be armed. The situation escalated, resulting in an officer discharging their weapon and injuring the man, who is now receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. 

No officers were harmed, and the investigation has been handed over to the Indiana State Police, with the officer involved placed on administrative leave per protocol. The findings will be reviewed by the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office.
