Chesterton, IN – The Chesterton Town Council has addressed a proposal by Provident Realty Advisors to develop a data center on the former Brassie Golf Course property. The council’s statement highlights several concerns, including noise, environmental impact, and the project’s scale.
According to the council, Provident has not sufficiently engaged with the community, failing to hold promised public forums. Key concerns include the periodic noise from diesel generators, the center’s electrical and water demands, and the overall environmental impact. The council also cited issues with stormwater management and the project’s proximity to residential neighborhoods.
The proposed development includes eight buildings, each with a footprint of up to 200,000 square feet and a height of 80 feet, which has drawn particular scrutiny. A public forum is now scheduled for June 19. However, the council emphasized the need for significant adjustments to the proposal before it can be seriously considered. They stressed the importance of public transparency and community input throughout the planning process.
The council remains open to working with Provident to find a suitable location within Chesterton for the data center. Still, they noted that any future development must address the legitimate concerns of residents and adhere to the town’s standards for sustainable growth.
