Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago has issued a flood advisory for several counties in northeast Illinois including Cook, DuPage, and Will, effective until 8 AM CDT this morning.
This advisory comes as a result of minor flooding caused by overnight excessive rainfall. Local law enforcement reports indicate ponding on roadways within the affected area, urging caution for morning commuters.
According to the NWS, between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have already fallen, with Chicago, Joliet, Naperville, and several other locations potentially experiencing minor flooding, particularly in poor drainage and urban areas.
Residents are advised to use caution, avoid flood waters, and heed the motto, “Turn around, don’t drown,” when encountering flooded roads. For more information on safety precautions, visit the National Weather Service’s flood safety page.
