Residents in Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana should brace for a chilly night as temperatures are expected to plummet to 28 to 37°F, with the coldest areas north and northwest of Chicago.

According to the National Weather Service, the frost advisory is active from midnight tonight until 8 AM Thursday, with a freeze watch in effect for northern Illinois. Frost advisories may be required for these regions.

The drop in temperature poses a risk to sensitive vegetation, and the National Weather Service advises covering plants or bringing them indoors to prevent damage. The week continues with cooler temperatures and an unsettled weather pattern, anticipating showers and thunderstorms from Friday through the weekend, with a warmer trend on Saturday and Sunday.
