CHICAGO — Celebrations turned somber as two young individuals, a teenager and a 19-year-old, became victims of a stabbing incident amidst the vibrant Mexican Independence Day festivities downtown on Saturday night.

The disturbing event unfolded near the 300 block of North State Street just past midnight. Eyewitnesses recall a heated exchange between the victims and another group, escalating quickly to a violent confrontation. The older victim was stabbed in the back, while the 15-year-old suffered a torso laceration.

Both victims were promptly taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and are reported to be in fair condition.
