DeKalb Man Charged with Reckless Homicide After Fatal Crash Involving Sheriff’s Deputy

DeKalb, IL – Nathan P. Sweeney, 44, of DeKalb, faces charges of reckless homicide and DUI after his vehicle fatally collided with DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Deputy Christina Musil’s squad car.

The Illinois State Police (ISP) reported the crash occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024, on Illinois Route 23. Deputy Musil was parked on the highway’s shoulder at the time of the incident. Investigations further determined Sweeney was allegedly under the influence of drugs, leading to additional charges of aggravated DUI causing death. 

Sweeney is currently held at the Ogle County Jail, with the case pending legal proceedings.
