DuPage County, IL – Sheriff James Mendrick announced a significant breakthrough in an animal cruelty investigation in unincorporated Lombard, resulting in the rescue of ten dogs and charges against a local resident.

Sharon Manuel, born on August 1, 1964, has been charged with one count of alleged Cruelty to Animals and two counts of Violation of Owner’s Duties First Offense, following a diligent investigation by DuPage County authorities.

According to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted to the situation after receiving complaints from concerned citizens about the welfare of animals at a residence on Columbine Ave. The execution of a search warrant led to the discovery and rescue of three adult dogs and seven puppies, who were allegedly living in deplorable conditions.

State’s Attorney Robert Berlin condemned the alleged mistreatment, emphasizing the importance of compassion for pets. The rescued animals are now under the care of DuPage County Animal Services, with the community urged to support through donations.

Manuel is expected to appear in court on April 4, 2024.
