Milwaukee, WI – A significant breakthrough has been made by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office in a case involving a freeway shooting that occurred on January 30th.
Anna Theresa Velazquez, a 34-year-old woman from Oak Creek, and Leonel Saavedra, a 24-year-old Milwaukee man, have been charged with multiple felonies following their alleged involvement in a shooting on I-94 Southbound at the Ryan Road offramp.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded when a Caledonia man, fueling his vehicle at a local service station, noticed an SUV and its driver acting suspiciously. Fearing a potential robbery, the man left the station, only to be pursued by the SUV onto the freeway. It was there, near I-94 and Ryan Road, that the SUV’s passenger reportedly fired multiple shots at the man’s vehicle, hitting it several times before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the victim was unharmed and managed to capture video evidence of the suspect vehicle, including its license plate.
Over six weeks of investigation, deputies and detectives identified Velazquez as the driver and Saavedra as the passenger during the incident. Velazquez faces charges including First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety – PTAC, As A Party To A Crime, a Class F Felony, with potential penalties of up to 12 years and six months in prison, a $25,000 fine, or both. Saavedra is charged with First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Use Of A Dangerous Weapon, among other felonies, facing up to 28 years and six months imprisonment and $60,000 in fines if convicted on all counts.
