Wheaton, IL – DuPage County has been awarded a significant federal grant for advancing clean energy initiatives.
The U.S. Department of Energy allocated $449,660 to the county as part of a broader $20.5 million distribution aimed at supporting energy efficiency and conservation projects across 32 states, territories, and local governments.
According to the DuPage County Board Chair Deborah Conroy, this grant will facilitate the enhancement of green initiatives on the county campus. Plans include installing two electric vehicle charging ports, additional solar panels, and LED light upgrades. A portion of the funds will be dedicated to conducting a Clean Energy Workforce Analysis to assess the local clean energy job market and develop strategies for workforce development in this sector.
The grant will also support clean energy-related job training programs, emphasizing the removal of barriers to successful training completion and upskilling current workers. Chair Conroy expressed enthusiasm about DuPage County becoming a leader in the clean energy sector, highlighting the grant as a pivotal step towards investing in training programs and preparing the local workforce for high-demand roles in this growing industry.
